This has been my recurring experience with many, not all, non-vegan non theists/anti-theists/atheists and self-proclaimed rationalists/skeptics. Regardless how compelling and insurmountable the evidence against speciesism is, some continue thinking that any activism on its behalf is preachy and condescending. Something we wouldnt today use to describe activists fighting for any form of rights towards oppressed individuals be it LGBTQ individuals, minorities, women, disabled people etc. Im going to reiterate a cause isnt preachy simply because you dont have the ability to think critically about the issue being discussed at hand. Im always baffled at how atheists justify their blatant ridicule towards peoples religious beliefs but are offended the second someone tells them to analyze and rethink their dietary habits. The same dietary habits that are destroying the planet and killing billions of animals. In short: Making fun of peoples religion when its completely uncalled for and unnecessary is totally fine. They deserve it, its not shoving down peoples throats because religion is evil. Pointing out moral inconsistencies, providing facts against animal consumption and making valid arguments with mountains of evidence is preachy and shoving veganism down peoples throats because bacon tastes good or some instilled mantra theyve learned to memorize thats been socially conditioned and indoctrinated into them from a young age.
