This is Ruby our Newest adoptee, shes 3 1/2 and very sweet.. unfortunately her diet has been 85% Sunflower Seeds since she was weaned, she already has some liver damage from this awful diet...the food and drug addministration has got to step up and start banning them from all bird food..or at the very least force Parrot and bird food companies to put a warning on any bird food mixture that contains Sunflower Seeds. They are so damaging to Parrots that recently I spoke to a man, who told me his Blue and Gold Macaw he had for 30 yrs had died, he said the Vet told him it was from liver damage, I asked him if the birds diet consisted Sunflower seeds? He said yes, I said, didnt your vet tell you Sunflower Seeds caused, fatty liver disease? He said no, he thought it was ok, because it was in the Parrot mixture, he had always fed him. I said it cut up to 70 yrs off his Parrots life, and he should sue the company who made the food.
