This is a difficult post. John and I are completely exhausted. Arrived at the hospital at 9:00 this morning and just made it home. Going to eat before heading back. A lot of things have changed in the past two days that we had not disclosed on other posts. Alex is still in the ICU and on a ventilator. They are keeping her sedated most of the time. She has tried to pull her tube out a couple of times so they keep her handcuffed to the bed for her protection. Her potassium levels continue to run low so she is still receiving infusions. The three antibiotics are still running as well. The newest development is that they have detected an issue with her heart now. Normal heart output is usually 70 - 90% capacity. Alex is at 25% and less. They are not sure what has caused this. Thankfully her Cardiologist is the same one that John has. He is a very caring and loving physician and we are grateful he is on her team. The Pulmonologist spoke with us yesterday. The pneumonia does not appear to be any better. The concern is that when the suction her there isnt a lot of out put. He is not sure if the fluid that appears in her chest x-rays is actually from her lungs or that possibly due to the new development with her heart that it is fluid leaking from that. Her kidneys are now also showing signs of distress due to Lasiks and fluids being run simultaneously. The doctor has admitted that she is worse now than when she came in. That is reassuring...not. Thank you for all of the visits, calls, posts, cards, prayers and support. Please forgive me if I have not had the chance to personally respond to each of you individually. Thank you Emily and Lacey for driving such long distances to hold her hand and give us hugs. To the many other amazing visitors we have had; thank you. It makes all of us feel so very special, loved and comforted just knowing that you all are there. We truly are overwhelmed by all of the support. Please continue to pray for all of us. We can feel the care and concern that you are sending in our names. Alex truly is fighting for her life. John and I have both told her how much we love her and that we are so proud of how hard she has fought. We know that whatever the outcome is, we know she will never be forgotten and that she has made an amazing impact on this world. We will try to continue to update you as much as possible. Thank you, Sherri Jordan Buell for sending out updates for us. Love you girl!
