This is a fine little movie. However, the next generation of particle acceleration will be large linear colliders, or, a large electron-positron accelerator which is basically a straight-line path from initial states to final states. You see, the LHC, or "The Large Hadron Collider", really, represents the end of those large accelerators which use a circular path for acceleration of particles which do not emit what is called "synchrotron radiation". What Natalia fails to mention is the fact that a large portion of the collision energy available at the LHC is simply wasted in the final-state production of what is essentially, by practical as well as theoretical standards, junk that we already know about, showers of particles whose properties we know and can calculate to an accuracy of parts-per-billion. A huge fraction of the available collisions energy at the LHC goes into "junk production". After the Higgs discovery, and when the LHC goes "full bore",...,and quite possibly reveals evidence for supersymmetry, or "Bose-Fermi symmetry", and, perhaps evidence for extra-dimensions, the era of the "big round machines" will be essentially over. The next frontier is the collision of electrons and their anti-particles, positrons. Electrons simply cannot be accelerated in a circular path without emitting synchrotron radiation, hence, a straight-line, "linear" format is required. While the available center-of-mass collision energies will be lower, the resulting "final states" will be much more interesting, much more "pure" than the trillions of junk-filled collisions from the LHC. Pure matter/anti-matter annihilation into final states is where the future of particle physics will be fashioned. youtube/watch?v=3Kqee8GiQZE
