This is a poem my friend Dawn Royer wrote. Its very beautiful and I wanted to share it with all of you.....To Sleep... I often think about my death, how peaceful it would be. No one understands it – they simply just dont see. Ive lived my life - the ups, the downs, as well as one should live. The battle has made me tired, having little left to give... I enjoy my family and my friends and the time we get to spend, its the little things, those special times; that I would hate to end. I know that God has given me strength, the power to conquer all, and I know Hes there to pick me up, each and every time I fall. Its not that I would want to die; just want that peaceful feel. A little sleep, a pleasant dream, would do a lot to heal. I close my eyes to block the world but it doesnt matter much; the peaceful feel I desire so... remains extremely out of touch. What dreams do break through insomnia are not always serene; they tend to haunt the peacefulness of the hours in between. I think to sleep the sleep of dead is merely just a fable, but Id do it in a heartbeat...if only I was able. This is not an omen of things to come, as I wont commit that sin. As this is not Gods wish for me, perhaps to my chagrin... So I continue on with limited spirit until the journeys end, hoping that this little sleep will allow my soul to mend. And so Ill pray for peace and solace and with the last of breath, Ill thank the God watching over me for a serene and peaceful death.
