Daily Strength July 13 Read Luke 15 WORSHIP IS MY OPPORTUNITY I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.-Ps. 122:1 Benjamin Franklin said: “If the world is so bad with religion, what would it be without it?” Abraham Lincoln said: “Take all of the Bible that you can on reason and the rest by faith and you will live and die a better man.” Theodore Roosevelt said: “I need my church to feed my soul and refresh my spirit. I go once a week for my own sake and for the influence of my example.” He was a soldier and found that soldiers live better and fight better if they take hold of God and let God take hold of them. Most of our great Americans have been churchgoing people and not ashamed of it. If I were a soldier I would regard the opening door of a neighboring church, or the post chapel, or the place where the chaplain had set up the altar in the field as an invitation from my Maker to go in and meet Him there. Don’t give up church attendance because you are away from home and home customs. Your mother and father are praying for you; and your friends are praying for you, more than you think. They want you to come out of this clean and with your faith unshaken. Church worship will help you, as will nothing else. Remember, the war will end, but your life will not end with the way. Your country will expect you to come home and take your place as a citizen with clean morals, broad religious faith, and honest-to-goodness patriotism. You need the church, and the church needs you! You both “make good” together, and your country will lose or gain by the kind of a person that you are. HEAVENLY FATHER, help me to believe that I cannot live by bread alone or by the things outside of me only. I have a mind and soul to keep.
