This is how awesome and sovereign God is in preaching, when His Word is exposited and Christ is sought to be exalted: I preached Galatians 4:21-31 last Sunday and it was one of the toughest texts Ive ever preached (Pauls allegory can be extremely confusing). After preaching, I kept thinking Oh boy... Did anyone understand anything that I said? Was Jesus clearly exalted? Later during the week I had two separate people contact me to let me know how incredibly clear the gospel was and how much they needed to hear it. That was the best sermon Ive ever heard you preach and The best sermon Ive ever heard were a few of the things that were said. I dont say this is to brag, for I originally felt it was one of the worst sermons I had preached and was sure I had simply confused people! I say this as a witness to the power that God unleashes, through His Spirit, as the Word is proclaimed, explained, and applied and Jesus is lifted up. Im thankful that week in and week out God (seemingly) takes my mess and makes it a message. Romans 11:33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!
