This is the Kuskulana River bridge originally built in 1910 along the McCarthy road leading to the Kennecott mine. In the early 1900s they found a large vein of copper worth more than 1.3 billion profit in todays dollars and easily mined. The McCarthy road is 60 miles of washboard gravel/dirt - took us about 3 hours to drive in. At the end of the road we then used our mountain bikes to get to the Kennecott mine (4 miles from the end of the road) where the NPS is restoring the historic mining town. There is a huge Glacier right on the edge of the town of Kennecott
