This is to inform that Sahitya Akademi is holding WAVES - The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Poetry Festival (March 01-03, 2014). The Indian Ocean Rim constitutes not merely a geographical area, but a cultural one too. These countries got connected long ago through sea routes and exchanged ideas, concepts and forms of art. It is extremely important to retrieve that partly lost organic connection, both politically and culturally. And what can connect nations and peoples better than poetry? 50 Poets from 19 countries along the India Ocean Rim will be showcasing their poetic waves that will serve as a feast to the lovers of literature. Festival will bring together poets from IORA countries, including the poets representing Indian languages. Some of the prominent poets that will be present are Shiv K. Kumar (India), Nabaneeta Deb Sen (India), Surjit Patar (India), Nida Fazli (India), Edwin Thumboo (Singapore), Abdul Jabbar Kakaei (Iran), K. Satchidanandan (India) Mohammad Haji Saleh (Malaysia), Zakariya Amataya (Thailand), Nirmalendu Goon (Bangladesh) Participating countries include Australia, Bangladesh, Comoros, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mozambique, Mauritius, Oman, Seychelles, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, UAE, Yaman. The festival is open to general public and the entry is free for everyone.
