This just posted to my Timeline about the home I grew up in. Jack Goy 7:11pm Jack Goy We went up to Arch Crest yesterday. Nothing has changed. It would break your heart. Your grandparents home is in terrible shape. They have cleaned all the brush off the hillside, that is the only major change. Your parents home looks wonderful. The owner really has pride in how it looks. She also has a huge dog, which is a great watchdog and barks a lot whenever anyone goes next door. The home south of your grandparents home has been bought by a friend of the lady who owns the run-down home, Their roof is being replaced and the house is derelict. too. My former boss, who was with me (he may still buy your grandparents home and he has a contractors license.) He said the roofers next door are doing a really poor job, using inferior materials. So now, both those homes are falling into disrepair and oddly, they are owned by two incompetent woman who apparently are friends. It rather is a mess. If those homes were in L.A. the city would have been after them years go. Two beautiful homes being allowed to become desolated slums. It is rather sad. Will keep you updated. We travel down there several times a year. . ... J Thomas Young 8:26pm J Thomas Young Thanks, Jack. Yes, a sad state of affairs. I have such grand memories of the home, to say nothing of the love my grandfather had for his flowers; his orchids, and flowers in every inch of that hillside. I especially recall the Calla Lillies....a bed on a terraced portion, about 8 wide and maybe 30 long....so lovely.
