This message is to the college students who left the dog and the cat at our door last night, and I hope and pray you see this. While you may have thought you were doing the right thing by leaving those babies at our door, what you did was cruel and unacceptable. While you left the cat in a real crate, and he was safe, you left the poor dog in a box. Did you really think he couldnt get out of that box? Just so you know, he did get out of that box. Spot (as you stated was his name in your letter) was out when the first employee arrived to work this morning. Most likely due to the emotional stress of his being dumped the way you did him, he jetted the instant she tried to approach him. I doubt it even matters to you, but our shelter employees spent the biggest part of their day trying to find that poor baby, to no avail. Because of you, he is alone, cold and scared somewhere tonight, if he is even still living. In your letter you asked us to please dont kill them. Well, just so you know, we dont kill animals. We love them and do the best we can to ensure that they get a better life, and we certainly keep them safe. You cared enough to leave a bag with their belongings, and a letter. If only you had cared enough to keep them safe. This, folks, is why we take issue with people leaving their animals at our door. People are always quick to say Well, at least they left them there with CARA, instead of just dumping them somewhere. And this is not the first time that those animals have gotten away. Really no different than dumping them. Tonight we are heartbroken and at a loss, and somewhere, if were lucky, there is a little dog named Spot who is feeling the exact same way. This is inexcusable and there is absolutely no justification in what these college kids did. I am asking everyone who sees this post to say a prayer for little Spot tonight. He did not deserve this, and he most definitely needs our prayers. (VH)
