This morning, I taught a class on the etiquette of dealing with bidah in our community. Here are a few points from the class for all to benefit from: 1. Bidah refers to religious innovation: changes to the beliefs or practices of Islam 2. Worldly innovation like inventions and advancements in technology are permissible and are not categorized as bidah 3. Bidahs are of different levels. Some bidahs are worse than others. 4. Muslims who commit bidah are still Muslim and still have the same rights upon you as other Muslims 5. You cannot change a community overnight, you need to be patience and consistent in your Dawah over a long period of time 6. Harshness, extremism, judgment, boycotting and name-calling just chase people further away from the Sunnah 7. Most Muslims involved in bidah are sincere and dont understand that what they are doing is incorrect. Appreciate their sincerity and be wise and logical in how you present the Sunnah to them 8. Follow the verse: Call to the way of Your Lord with Wisdom, Gentle preachings and reason with them with the best of manners 9. Be a part of your community and call towards the Sunnah gently
