Those people calling Lisa Mary Johanna Punch out for describing her reality of the poverty of Guyana need to seriously contemplate what life is like here for the vast majority of people. What got her to where she is today is sheer hard work, incredible individual talent, unstinting support from her mother and friends, and belief in her own ability to make it. The circumstances she had to endure both as a person and an artist can in no way be described as rich, or even supportive of survival and growth at a basic level. Instead of decrying her on the basis of some bullshit, delusional positive patriotism, we should be thanking her for acknowledging us at all when this place as a community of people and laws did nothing special for her. Thank you, Lisa, for carving out a path at such a young age and with the dignity and style with which youve done it; and thank you for making us who have failed you proud.
