Three policemen and a civilian were killed in fresh attacks on the police in Kaduna State. The killings occurred in Kajuru and Nungu villages. The state governor, Ramalan Yero, condemned the attack on the Divisional Police Headquarters in Kajuru area and vowed to “tackle the activities of criminals, who are bent on creating tension in the state.” The Kajuru attack claimed the lives of two policemen with other victims sustaining injuries. The Governor while visiting the scene of the attack on Tuesday, described the situation as unfortunate and called on security operatives to intensify their investigations and arrest the perpetrators of the heinous crime. Mr. Yero implored the people of Kajuru to remain calm as government was ready to provide the necessary support to security agencies in order to maintain peace and security of lives and property of the people. Mr. Yero has also condemned the reported attack at Nungu in Sanga Local Government Area by bandits over the weekend which resulted in the death of two persons including a policeman. The bandits were reported to have robbed some members of the community of their monies and other valuables. The governor in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Ahmed Maiyaki, expressed deep sympathy over the ugly situation saying, “This ugly trend has to stop and we are committed to bringing the perpetrators of this attack to book by all means possible.” He also condoled with the families of the victims. “At such sad moments, our hearts and prayers are with the immediate families of those that died in the ugly incident. We pray that the Almighty God repose their souls and give their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” he said. The governor commended the courage and patriotic zeal of the deceased policemen saying, “They died in active service to the fatherland while discharging their duties as defenders of the people. They died as heroes.” Mr. Yero also promised to provide assistance to all victims of the incidents and disclosed that the State Government would pay the bills of those receiving treatment at the St Gerald Catholic Hospital in Kaduna.
