Three years ago at this time of night, I was getting ready to go see a concert I had been looking forward to - Passion Pit at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland. I had two tickets and was dating some guy at the time whom I was about to invite until the thought crossed my mind that he would ruin my fun somehow. So, instead I called up my girlfriend Lauren and was thrilled when she said she could go. I couldnt put my finger on why, but felt as if I had dodged a bullet. When we got to the crystal, Lauren and I decided to test the camera on my new phone. Instead of taking a selfie, I turned to the guys standing behind us and asked if they would take our picture. They were total strangers, but eventually we spent the night talking, dancing and enjoying the best concert Ive ever been to. Although we didnt exchange numbers, I told Lauren after the show that somehow I knew Kristian and I were meant to be. Needless to say, I never saw the guy I didnt invite to the show ever again, and Im lucky to see Kristian every single day. I will always love December 1 and the story of how we met, if for nothing else, it proves every once in awhile all the chaos in the world will stop, doors open up in unison, and whoever is brave enough to walk through them will change their path forever.
