Tiphagne Freed in Prem Kumar Case By Express News Service - CHENNAI Published: 03rd December 2013 08:44 AM Last Updated: 03rd December 2013 08:44 AM Henri Tiphagne, executive director of People’s Watch and a well-known human rights activist along with fifteen others were relieved from a case by the Cuddalore JM court II on Monday. The non-governmental organisation was involved in exposing the immoral practices of Prem Kumar, who was transferred to Cuddalore district as SP in 2004. As part of the campaign, human rights activists led by Henri Tiphagne had called for a press meet in Cuddalore town hall on October 11, 2004 under the title ‘Prem Kumar — From SI to SP’. The press meet was intended to flay the activities of Prem Kumar during his tenure as SI until he became the SP. Rights activist Nizhamuddhin, also an accused in this case, said, “When we arranged the press meet, SP Prem Kumar barged into the town hall with hundreds of policemen and women police, and asked us to vacate the hall, as the hall would be used to conduct a computer training programme for the women police. Following orders from the police, we tried to shift our press meet to a nearby hall, but even here Prem Kumar intervened and tried to stop the press conference. We wanted to expose him to the media so that everybody would get to know about his activities.” “We were accused of assaulting women police and outraging their modesty. But the allegations against us could not be proved in the court,” he added. newindianexpress/states/tamil_nadu/Tiphagne-Freed-in-Prem-Kumar-Case/2013/12/03/article1924829.ece
