To All Utah Parents of Gifted, Autistic, Quirky, African American, - TopicsExpress

To All Utah Parents of Gifted, Autistic, Quirky, African American, Latino, American Indian, & Learning Disabled Public/Charter School Children: This Monday, June 9th, a Federal Hearing Judge will decide in Student vs. Alpine School District, the very issue cited in the below article: Is it reasonable and fair to place a particular academic standard on a child where the very laws of nature, 150 years of developmental science, and parental common sense and observation show that such is practically impossible? Is it legal to impose the Common Core mentality of one-size-fits-all on these brilliantly divergent kids? 18 months prior to this case, I broadcasted to Utah and nationally that this was not only wrong, but I coined the term Cognitive Child Abuse to describe graphically how the Common (Utah?) Core mentality harms these kids...in a State with the highest number of kids on the autistic spectrum in the country. This Monday morning, a very intelligent, humble judge flown in from a small West Virgina town, will answer these questions that every member of the Utah State Board of Education, the Utah State Office of Education, Utahs largest Public school district, and every elected politician in Utah (with the exceptions of Wendy Hart and Senator Mark Madsen-husband of my friend Erin Allen Madsen) refused to answer or confront. If we actually win, will only the 30 parents of the estimated 60,000 affect Utah kids who showed up to the trial, read the decision? Will the thousands of dedicated parent activist in Utahans Against Common Core take a short break from their own (correct and well documented) agendas, and have the foresight to see the direct correlations that this case has with Common Core? Oak Norton my dear friend, if in the rare chance that David actually slams home a verdict against Alpine/USOEs Goliath, will you be the hero I have been seeking in this State that will come to the rescue of gifted and special education kids? Will your organization be the one to request a public disclosure of exactly how much tax payers money was spent to defend this case ? (We estimate close to $150,000.00) My job, and the job of our clinic in these issues are done. On June 9, regardless of the decision results, we quietly go back to doing what we were trained to do....and that is neither advocacy or politics. I humbly ask you all to share this message, and the attached Atlantic article written by a respected special education Professor from Drexel University, to the parents of the 60,000 kids in Utah whose lives will be affected by this ruling this Monday.
