To some people that a goose that purchased nearly 14 yrs ago for $7 - $10 is not worth their time or expense to take to the vet when not feeling well----Not this farm... Cleopatra the White Chinese goose had her appointment at the vets this morning.... Her crate bedded down with hay loaded up in the bed of the truck and off we went to her appointment. Cleopatra is very easy to handle and she allowed me to take her from her crate and carry her into the veterinarian office. There she sat in my lap as I wrapped a towel around her to make sure she did not make a mess all over the floor. She chattered away as the dogs, cats, and their human companions stared at her--Cleopatra not bothered at all.... It was determined that she needed some x-rays, and like a trooper she allowed me to lay her on her side...As I spoke to her, she chattered a little bit but not once did she panic...After a couple of minutes in the waiting room, it was then determined for the next two weeks she would have to take an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory pill twice a day (not an issue--she lets me open her mouth and drop the pills the down) :)...... Apparently her leg bone experienced some trauma a while back (thinking back on it, I bet it was the two aggressive ganders we had for a short period of time) and some arthritis has settled in..... Pills in hand, Cleopatra and I made our way back to the farm---no sooner did I get out of the cab of the truck I filled up her pool and placed her in it for a bath---she bathed for a good 10 minutes--preening each feather very carefully..... Attila, Hera (the other geese), and Burt the duck all stood around their pool as she bathed and the chatter was on......I am sure she will telling her feathered friends all about her experience......
