Today, 5 years ago, my 19 year-old brother crossed into the spirit world. In honor of him, I did a private ceremony with my drum and flute at Medicine Lake, Jasper to clear another layer of the grief process. At this place, my van and all my belongings burnt down in 2009 and exactly a month later, my brother passed away in a burning vehicle in Austria. I offered some cornmeal and sage, agua florida and many songs to this potent place of big medicine, a fire that helped me grow so much bigger and become so much more compassionate.
