Today I shot, edited, did music for, and uploaded a short video. I was inspired by running across a used paperback at the public library book sale shelves of Marshall McLuhans media analysis book The Gutenberg Galaxy. You might not always agree with McLuhan, but you cannot ignore him. His insights and thoughts about how technology changes the content, his the medium massages the message, as it were, are more relevant than ever. Most the comments I make on political and social theory posts I see online are about rhetoric, and come from a communications and media analysis viewpoint. Thats also partially because as a poet, writer, whatever, I am hyper aware of language, and its proper and accurate use; I also know where and when it utterly fails; so I tend to be watchful of exactly those things McLuhan warns to be watchful about. I was influenced by McLuhan even before I discovered his own writings, via his influence on John Cage. Diary: How to Improve the World (You Will Only Make Matters Worse).
