Today I took a moment to reflect: As children, we used to play a lot at Lugogo Sports ground. We rubbed shoulders and emulated sports personalities such as Sadiq Wassa, Sula Kato, Jackson Mayanja et al in soccer; Fred Muteweta, Wanyama, Justin Juuko etc in Boxing....We had access to Cricket, Tennis and all that one could develop interest at! Growing up and going to school with the likes of Asiku Jackson, Robert Ngumire, Omony Posnett, Wilbur Musiika et al...I learned a thing or two: That a worthwhile investment in sports and recreation provides enormous opportunity home skills from energetic young people which can help them become professionals and income earners; that today, the youths of Uganda do not have proper structures, facilities and guidance to develop skills to international levels. BRAZIL 2014 FIFA WC: I have also noted that the quality of sports and including soccer in Uganda has not improved very much in the last 20 years with few individual exceptions. Ugandan participants are still putting up mediocre performances at international levels with few exceptions such as Kipsiro, Kiprotich etc. The WC 2014 is one where East Central and Southern Africa will not be represented. This failure may also be associated with the bad political minds that stifle sports and talent development through cutbacks in funding...#OhUganda!
