Today I was on the train from Queens to Brooklyn brainstorming ways to practice languages in New York. Although its an ethnically and linguistically diverse city, its also quite compartmentalized, divided and separated. You can easily think and feel alone in a crowd of millions! A strategy I thought was to practice a different language each day, and then a woman walked on, dropped her phone, I helped her pick it up. I then remember I forget Haitian Creole on my list, and I kept listening to music. And then I realized I must pay more attention to my surroundings, and sure enough that woman was from Haiti, so I began to practice. Moments are presenting themselves constantly to us and its our responsibility to pay more attention and practicing authentically connecting with others, rather then disconnecting from the present!
