Today a friend of mine explained how he received a ticket for using his cell phone. After coming off the highway he was stopped on the exit ramp at a red light. The phone was charging. He had a bluetooth earpiece. He picked up the phone to check the charge. No phone call was made. When he picked up the phone what he thought was a homeless person, dressed in old clothing, and carrying cardboard, knocked on his window and identified himself as a police officer. He directed him to a spot nearby where a second uniform officer issued him at POT for $288.00. For using the phone. Both are named on the ticket. One as the witness officer and one as the issuing officer. I understand what a serious and dangerous issue using the cell phone is. But really? Posing as a homeless person to issue a ticket, and utilize two officers to accomplish it? Two court cards? This is the depth we have sunk to in order to hand out a POT? This is worse than hiding behind an old billboard. Sorry I was a copper for 35 years, no bigger supporter of the boys in blue than I am, but that is just a little much for me. Tell me that this is not a standard way of doing business now. Interested in the comments, so let her rip!🚔🚦
