Today is the day! Cobourg native Justin Williams of the NHL champion Los Angeles Kings is bringing home the Stanley Cup. Williams will also have the Conn Smythe Trophy, which he won as being named MVP during the playoff run, as well as the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl - the Western Conference championship trophy. Like this post if you will be attending the parade downtown and the celebration in Victoria Park. The parade is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. from the Cobourg Public Library and continue down King Street into Victoria Park where Williams will be welcomed home by Cobourg Mayor Gil Brocanier. Williams will introduce his family and hold a question and answer session for those in attendance, who will also have the opportunity to have their picture taken with the Stanley Cup. A raffle draw will also take place for two tickets to an NHL game this December between Ottawa and Los Angeles, which were donated by Marc Mercier, a partner at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP and governor of the Cobourg Cougars junior A hockey club, with proceeds going to the Library. Tickets will be sold downtown as well as in Victoria Park near the bandshell.
