Today is the day I gave birth to my oldest child. A baby boy. He was mommys boy. As he grew he impressed me with how quickly he caught on to things. He could build anything. Built himself a workbench at the age of six. Made me a picture frame for his school picture when he was 7 or 8. He could answer math problems by looking at them. He didnt have to go through the steps. Hed just know the answer. That didnt always impress the teachers but thats how his mind worked. At a young age until he graduated teachers would pull him out of class to work on their computers. It just came natural to him. He made friends easily. But usually they were years older than him. He was more mature than he looked. Wiser than his years. He often would say things that would really surprise me coming from someone so young. He still teaches me things each day. His passion though was helping others. He joined the fire department at a young age. Had to wait to run calls. Then to drive. Then for each certification. He had found his passion. Others! He then went on to study to be an EMT. Passed his classes. Then became certified and employed by LEASA. He still went to school to be a Paramedic. Didnt lack much to be certified. Wanted to then work in the Emergency a Room then go on to study Osteopathic Medicine. His passion grew. What time he was home was just to gather clothes, eat and sleep. He rarely slept so if he set an alarm he generally slept through it. It would go off continuously until I either went up and woke him or gave up and turned off the alarm to just let him sleep. But a pager go off.... He was out the door before I really knew it had even went off. Never ever heard him complain. Nasty dirty, soaking wet or extreme tired. He never said a word. Only time I heard him say a word or even cry was when a child would get hurt due to negligence or abuse. He loved children more than anything! Cory was constantly getting certified for different things at the fire department or at LEASA. I thought all this was just part of the job. Only after he passed away did I find out that all of that training was not required but he chose to be trained for those added skills. So when my son was out learning to repel, rock climbing, search and rescue, swift water rescue, scuba diving, mine rescue, teaching CPR classes, etc. he could have been just being a kid but he chose to do what he loved and help people. He loved what he did. The only thing I think he loved other than his job was his Harley. He was on his way to meet a friend to ride and relax for the first time in a long while. Going on the road that he considered to be safer than riding the four lane. He stopped to tell me he was going. He was always good to call or stop and let me know where he was. He hugged me. We told each other we loved each other. Something we always did. Im glad I got that chance. Because five minutes later I got the call that he had been hit head on. My world forever changed. About five hours later my son took his final breathe in this world. To be absent in the body is to be present with God! Cory was so much in this world. Mine and Jerrys son, Amandas brother, a grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, boyfriend, coworker, a fireman, an EMT, a rescuer, a teacher, a HERO! I. love you Cory Price! I miss you so very much!! You are always on my mind!
