Today is the first of Dhul Hijjah and its recommended to fast - TopicsExpress

Today is the first of Dhul Hijjah and its recommended to fast these next 9 days. Fasting on the 9th day, the day of Arafat, is highly recommended (if possible) as it expiates your sins of the past year and the year ahead. Increase your dhikr and seek mercy from Allah (swt) for forgiveness of past sins. Recite tahmeed, tahleel and takbeer abundantly: The takbeer is: Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, Allaahu akbar, wa Lillaah il-hamd (Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, there is no god but Allah; Allah is Most Great and to Allah be praise) The Prophet (saw) commanded us to recite a lot of Tasbeeh (Subhan-Allah), Tahmeed (Al-hamdu Lillah) and Takbeer (Allahu akbar) during this time. He (saw) also said, There are no days more loved to Allah for you to worship Him therein than the ten days of Dhul Hijja. Fasting any day during it is equivalent to fasting one year and to offer salatul tahajjud (late-night prayer) during one of its nights is like performing the late night prayer on the Night of Power. (i.e. Lailatul Qadr). (At-Tirmidhi) Among the righteous deeds done for your own self, fasting is the best prescription. When our Prophet (saw) was asked about fasting on the day of Arafah (the 9th of the month of Dhul Hijjah), he replied, Fasting on the day of Arafah is an expiation for the preceding year and the following year”. (Sahih Muslim 680) By fasting for nine days of Dhul Hijjah a believer benefits with multiple rewards, while the 9th day in particular, will rid one of their poor record of the past year and the following year, if done with sincere repentance, in sha Allah. Fasting on the 10th day is prohibited because it is Eid al-Adha, the day of sacrificing and the day of celebration. May Allah accept our good deeds, increase us in knowledge and forgive our sins. Ameen.
