Today marks a year and a half since Jim was diagnosed with Stage - TopicsExpress

Today marks a year and a half since Jim was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. Its hard to believe its been a year and a half. A lot has changed to say the least. The day before the diagnosis on March 18th, 2013, my biggest concern was getting Shamus potty trained fully and figuring out how to throw Finn an awesome first birthday party. Those goals have come and gone and now Finn is 2, potty training also, and growing daily. Shamus is in 4K, such a smart boy. My kids have been resilient through this for the most part. They know what is going on, as much as their minds can comprehend and Jim and I have well thought out conversations with them if needed. I have learned more about colon cancer than I ever would have wanted to know but I also have learned that knowledge is power and when you are dealing with your loved ones life, you have to be as prepared as possible. Friends...I have lost friends in this journey for two reasons 1. they have literally walked out of my life with little to no explanation 2. they have passed away due to cancer or the complications from it. My heart hurts with both of these reasons. It does make me value and appreciate the friendships that have been made from this circumstance and the already established relationships that have grown deeper. I have no idea what to expect in the next year and a half, and that is really scary. I am trying to stay present though and staying grateful for every day.
