Took the girls to visit with their Pop Pop today. Dad is at Holston Health & Rehab in Knoxville. My dad continues to surprise and encourage me. He seems to be in good spirits and responding well to therapy. He was able to stand (with assistance) for 2 minutes a couple days ago. Today he stood (assisted) for 4 minutes. Obviously this is all one legged standing...it is my understanding that they will teach him to get around and function on one leg before attempting to introduce a prosthetic. He seems amused with the idea of getting a funny looking leg. I have to confess that for years Ive selfishly separated myself as far as possible from loved ones illnesses and hospitalizations...visiting only when my conscience gets the best of me, when its convenient, or I cant find a good enough excuse to stay away. Its hard for me to see someone I love in a condition other than healthy and fully functional. I hope my absence has never been perceived as uncaring, unloving, or anything of the sort...but I cant imagine not feeling that way if I were the one in the hospital and my family didnt bother to come visit. Time is so precious, fleeting...and the management of it is a great task that is often a major challenge for me. Lord, help me to rightly divide my time on things that matter and do away with things that rob me of time my family needs and deserves! Those of you whove read this far obviously actually care about what Im saying here. Please take a moment to pray for my dad, and also please pray with me about my ability to manage my time. It kinda seems like a ridiculous request, but its real life! Thanks, friends.
