Tribune Killings by terrorists: PDP goes spiritual, organises prayer session in Abuja Written by Christian Okeke-Abuja Wednesday, 05 March 2014 00:00 The alarming rate of killings by insurgents in the North-eastern part of the country assumed another dimension on Tuesday, as a volunteer initiative arm of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) committed to deepening democracy and developing the country, PDP Project Reloaded, went spiritual over the matter and organised a national prayer meeting in Abuja where members sought God’s intervention to end the onslaught. Members of the group said it organised the prayer after the shocking recent attack on a school in Yobe State where over 40 students lost their lives with about 20 female others taken away by the terrorists. They equally expressed worry that whenever military was deployed to assist or curtail such insurgency, it went down but the current one involving mainly Boko Haram members appeared to have defied every effort. The prayer session, which was held at the group’s secretariat at Maitama District witnessed series of prayers led by some prominent PDP members. Among those who prayed at the event which was also used to observe two-minute silence for the victims included the former minister of aviation, Tunde Omotoba; current Nigerian ambassador to Ireland, Dr Bolere Ketebu Nwokeafor and the former minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Abba Gana. Others were Alhaji A.Y Gombe, Dan Musa and Ikem Obianyo. Speaking during the prayer session, the former Deputy Senate President and chairman of the group, Alhaji Ibrahim Mantu, lamented the fate of the 20 female students taken away by the insurgents and noted that the group took the initiative to pray so that God could touch the hearts of the terrorists and make them know that they would give account of their actions one day. Mantu, who maintained that all religions do not support taking of human lives, disclosed that he had been finding it difficult to eat well whenever the killing of the students as well as abduction of the others dawned on him. The PDP chieftain urged members of the Boko Haram sect to end the killings, repent and turn back to God.
