Two boys climbing a coconut tree in the Morobe Province of Papua, New Guinea spotted a man attacking his daughter. Alarmed, they raced away and alerted others about what they had seen. A man identified as Rex Eric was found eating flesh and sucking blood from his deceased toddler daughter. The little girl’s mother had brought her to visit her dad, Rex Eric, at the compound where he lived. He reportedly grabbed the little girl, jumped a fence, bit her deeply in the neck and began sucking her blood. The two boys said he was laughing as he ate and sucked her blood. After the alarm was raised, he dumped her body into the nearby bushes and ran quickly off. Rex Eric was caught and detained by the police and could face charges of murder and cannibalism after the investigation is complete. The PNG Post Courier cited local councillor John Kenny, who was one of the first on the scene, as saying the three-year-old child and her mother were visiting the father when he grabbed the girl and ran off into nearby bushes. “He was just laughing at the boys and continued eating the flesh and sucking the blood,” Kenny told the newspaper. “The boys were scared and ran quickly to alert the people.” Witchcraft and cannibalism are nothing new in Papua New Guinea. Last year, dozens of people connected to a cult were arrested for killing seven people. Reportedly, they made soup from their penises and ate their brains. In 2011, a man was reportedly found eating his newborn son as a part of a sorcery initiation ceremony.
