Two robbery suspects in custody: This morning at about 3:55 AM, a resident heard noises outside her home in the 17300 block of Jacquelyn Lane. She went outside and was confronted by a male holding a handgun. The male possibly fired the handgun but missed her, and he fled on foot. Arriving officers discovered that male and a second male suspect had just robbed several other people at a small garage party in the neighborhood and had fired the handgun in that robbery. None of the victims were hit by the bullet. The suspects were seen leaving in a silver colored Mercedes Benz. A few minutes later, residents in the area of Graham Street and Slater Avenue reported a vehicle collision. Responding officers discovered a silver-colored Mercedes Benz crashed at the location. The officers began setting up a perimeter and located one of the suspects in the front yard of a residence. He was taken into custody without incident. After the perimeter was set up, officers began searching for the second outstanding suspect. The first suspect caught did not have a firearm with him, so it was possible the second suspect still had the firearm. Orange County Sheriff Department’s helicopter “Duke” responded to assist our officers. The pilots in Duke located a possible male hiding in the back yard of a residence. Officers surrounded the area and ordered the male to surrender but he refused. The homes in the immediate area were evacuated for the residents’ safety. A Fountain Valley officer and his canine came to the location to assist our officers. The canine flushed the suspect from that backyard and as the suspect was fleeing by hopping back yard fences, he was taken into custody by Huntington Beach police officers. Both suspects were identified as possible gang members and were arrested and booked for multiple charges related to the robberies and use of a firearm. The investigation is continuing and Huntington Beach Search & Rescue has been called to the area to assist with a search for additional evidence. Residents in the area are encouraged to contact the police department if they locate any suspicious items on their property.
