UFVRD NEWS RELEASE UFVRD FILE # 2013-21778 Male Arrested After Attempt Child Abduction Chilliwack, B.C.; On July 9th, 2013, Chilliwack RCMP responded to an attempted Child Abduction at 9400 block of Williams Street, Chilliwack, B.C.. At approximately 11:40 a.m. an unknown male entered an apartment complex at 9400 Block Williams Street, Chilliwack. The male knocked on several doors to gain entry. One door was answered by a four year old boy. The male walked into the apartment and approached the care giver to shake his hand. The startled care giver refused the hand shake. The male then proceeded to leave the apartment but not before picking up the kitten, an old toy wrestling belt and taking the hand of the four year old boy. The male walked down to the lobby with the four year old who refused to go any further. The male then departed the apartment with only the toy wrestling belt. Chilliwack RCMP immediately responded to the incident and conducted a thorough search of the area. One of the officers checked the security video of a local business and were able to ascertain a description of the male and a direction of travel. Diligent patrols resulted in locating and arresting the unknown male. “ Our officers responded quickly and thoroughly to this incident and their good work resulted in the apprehension of the male” advises Cpl. Len vanNieuwenhuizen “The attempted abduction of a child is very concerning and we are glad that this incident was resolved without harm to anyone” 41 year old Jonathan Lee Landsmen, of Chilliwack, appeared in Chilliwack court on July 9th on a charge of Abduction of a person under Fourteen, Section 281 of the Criminal Code. Landsmen was held in custody for future court appearance. This incident reinforces the fact that residential security whether it be an apartment or house can not be taken for granted.
