USA: 21 images of Christopher Galbreaths Army Helmet There have been many controversies in the past about US military body armor. Many people might recall the heated, passionate arguments when the US Army decided to switch from the old metal helmets with liners, to the new Kevlar bullet stoppers. Many of the emotional arguments had nothing to do with the qualify of the helmets, but with some mythological romanticism, accompanied by crinkled photographs of our combat troops using the steel pots for shaving basins, or cooking pots. Never mind that they cannot stop an AK-47, and that our Kevlar does stop AK bullets. The helmet is there to save out troops, not to help with a smoother shave. Our helmets are incredibly good. I have never heard a combat Soldier complain that he could not use it to cook with. The rest of our body armor is similar. Unless you are a special operations person with special body armor needs, the normal US body armor is phenomenal. The idea that it is substandard is just a marketing ploy or ignorance talking. US Soldier Chris Galbreath was wearing this helmet in Afghanistan when a bomb that might have been 2,000 pounds exploded. Chris was in a Strkyer vehicle. This fantastic helmet saved his life. The Army actually let Chris keep it. (Sweet of them.) Chris survived and is now going through school but has a little problem concentrating due to some traumatic brain injury. Bravo Chris, and thank you for sharing the photographs. Your helmet should be in the Smithsonian!
