USA: Various bills calling for moratoria on GE food (Vermont), bans of GE wheat (North Dakota, Montana) have been filed within the last year. Several municipalities declared moratoria on GE food (Burlington/Vermont), bans of GE crops (City of Boulder/Colorado), or urged the federal government to ban GE food (City and County of San Francisco/California). Mendocino and Marin Counties in California in addition to Jackson and Josephine Counties in Oregon have passed GMO prohibitions without being sued. Why do they sue Hawaii Counties for protecting ourselves but not the other US cities and counties that have passed either a moratorium or ban? You have the legal, home rule right to pass the moratorium. Furthermore you have the right to protect your citizens life and health, as long as we can hold off the chemical/GMO companies from getting the state to take that away. They are suing because this is the GE test site for the entire world and they want to continue to test and spray without regulation, turning 3-4 crops per year versus one anywhere else in the US. No other government in the world allows this level of open air genetic testing.
