“Understanding the Holy Spirit and His works” #118 What are the works of the Holy Spirit in general, and particularly in the believer`s life? Dear Friends. 11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence. 12 And when ye come into an house, salute it. 13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. 15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Day of Judgment, than for that city (Mathew 10:11-15). I do not know who may be readying from this text, but we want to say that a lot of things have gone wrong today through the ways by which some of us are presenting the Gospel message to the unchurched people. And while everybody and every denomination are claiming to be doing the right thing, our people do no longer know who is right and who is wrong. If someone should read from these commandments that the Lord Jesus had given to His Disciples when He had commissioned them to go and preach the Good News about the Kingdom of God. The reader will find out that the Lord Jesus had never commanded any of us to force somebody, or any race to come to worship Him. The message is plainly stated that we should enquire for who is worthy to receive the message. This means that whoever is not interested to hear the Gospel message should not be forced. And two things are so certain here: (1) This shows that after we have enquired about to see who should be interested, and it happened that someone had shown interest. At this moment the Bible had recommended that we should abide there with the person, this also means that we must follow the person up. (2) If it happened that nobody was interested, the best thing is to wipe out the dust of our shoes, and let the person be judged by God in the last day (Romans :14:12) (Hebrews 9:27). Someone has to agree that we have been wasting our precious times forcing the Gospel on people that do not want it. And some others have been persecuting the people because they have refused to convert…. Now there is this story from the Bible, and it is just to show that we cannot do whatever that we wanted to do with the Word of God. And just because that this story was found in the Old Testament we may have to bury it alive because of grace, or continue to think that the man of God was careless. But none of these two assumptions could be said to be true, instead it had happened to show us that Satan can influence anyone of us regardless our individual spirituality. We want you to read about this story which shows how God had sent His Prophet on a journey, and afterward the man of God failed God`s test. Please read the full story and let`s learn how we can begin to walk with God in complete obedience. 15 Then he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread. 16 And he said, I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee: neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place: 17 For it was said to me by the word of the LORD, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest. 18 He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.19 So he went back with him, and did eat bread in his house, and drank water. 20 And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet that brought him back: 21 And he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the LORD, and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee, 22 But camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of the which the LORD did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy carcase shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers. 23 And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled for him the ass, to wit, for the prophet whom he had brought back.24 And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the carcase. 25 And, behold, men passed by, and saw the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing by the carcase: and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt. 26 And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard thereof, he said, It is the man of God, who was disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him (1King 13).
