University not happy about the PTI chairman passing on ‘fascism as politics, mob rule as democracy’ Oxford: “Oxford University hereby declares Mr Imran Khan’s Bachelors’ degree in philosophy, political science and economics null and void, and is removing Mr Khan’s name from its alumni list,” Oxford University Vice Chancellor (VC) Andrew Hamilton said on Wednesday. The move comes amidst Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s protests against the Pakistani government. Khan has been demanding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation which has resulted in a political crisis that has been lingering on for the past three weeks. Hamilton explained his university’s move. “Mr Khan has been passing on fascism as politics, mob rule as democracy and has been doing so while constantly mentioning his time in the UK and his Oxford University degree. This has put our university’s credibility into question,” he said. “We are also looking into the performance of our Political Science, Philosophy and Economics faculties from the 70s and gauging their impact,” he added. Oxford University has made a list of all students who had studied any of the three subjects at Keble College, Oxford during the 1970s, who would be asked to retake all their exams if they don’t want their degrees to be discredited. The university is also firing all members of the three faculties who are still working at Oxford University. “All Keble College students from the 1972-75 batch, would have to retake all their political science, philosophy and economics exams or else their degrees would be cancelled,” the Oxford University Vice Chairman said adding that, “We do not want any of members of our alumni list making a mockery of political science, education and the general capacity of a human brain and claiming that Oxford taught them all the nonsense.” The 1975 batch has reacted strongly to the University’s decisions, as expected, and is filing a petition to oppose the move. Paul Neville, Khan’s batch mate told Khabaristan Times that there wasn’t anything wrong with the teachers or the university, the PTI chairman just didn’t attend many classes. “The teachers were brilliant, and I think if our petition fails and if most of us have to retake our exams you would realise that their political concepts would still be perfectly alright, despite many of them not having touched their books since 1975,” Neville said. “Khan used to play cricket all day, and in fact it was the cricket ground that taught him politics. He saved his best politics for the cricket ground, as (Javed) Miandad would testify. Unfortunately he is now playing cricket in the political ground.” According to sources, Oxford University has issued Imran Khan a notice for defamation and has put a ban on any future mentions of the university during his public addresses.
