Update to tonights event: Luigi Leone performance begins at 8pm, followed at 9:20pm by Wall-Eyed, whos making the trip from Flagstaff to share his music with us! 8pm - Luigi Leone does music under the Dangerous Commercials musical aka, a pop-punk project involving some Indie Rock/Folk. His influences include Against Me!. The Get Up Kids, Japandroids, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Story So Far, and The Wonder Years. His style of aggressive acoustic playing colors his originals, as well as his choice underground covers. 9:20pm - Wall-Eyed is a collaboration of musicians performing what has been described as gutter-folk, rock n roll music, alt-country, punk. The group currently consists of Wilson Getchell (guitar, vox, keys) and Rob Keane (percussion, bass), Jeff Micchelli (banjo, trumpet), Tony Armijo (bass), and Jordan Bilger (guitar, mandolin). Wall-Eyeds music is characterized by its blend of diverse musical genres, witty lyrics, energy and punk rock attitude. Wall-Eyed has drawn comparisons to Deer Tick, Modest Mouse, and The Replacements. Wall-Eyed initially formed around Rob and Wilson in the Washington, D.C. area in late 2011. Rob and Wilson eventually brought Ben Pettit (bass) into the fold and began performing throughout the Virginia, DC, Maryland area. Then, in late 2012, the group released its self-titled debut, a collection of 10 songs which drew heavily on the groups Americana, folk, and country influences. In 2013, Wilson, having grown frustrated with the DC area, relocated to Flagstaff, AZ, where hed briefly lived almost a decade earlier. Wilson spent several months playing acoustic sets with Nate Pratt (bass), until June 2013, when Rob rejoined Wilson in Flagstaff, and the group began performing various shows in Flagstaff, Phoenix, and the Verde Valley. In late 2013, Wall-Eyed was joined by Jeff Micchelli (banjo, trumpet) and Tony Armijo (bass), and Jordan Bilger (guitar, mandolin). In March 2014, Wall-Eyed released the Grace Under Fire EP, which showcased the groups musical diversity, breaking from the Americana mold of their self-titled debut, with songs ranging from the synth-infused punk/grunge of Saw You in Hell and Clap Three Times to the garage-rock reggae of 18 Bad Decisions. The record closes with Insults and Polemics, an Aztec-rawhide medley, which features nightmarish lyrical imagery about binge drinking and drug abuse. The band is currently playing throughout the Southwest and preparing to release a four song EP, entitled Exile, on May 9, 2014. $6 admission tonight, doors open at 7:15pm.
