VCU Community Memorial Hospital limiting visitors in response to flu spike In consideration to the current rise in influenza cases and to protect the health of patients, visitors, and staff, the visiting regulations at VCU Community Memorial Hospital (VCU-CMH) in South Hill will be more restrictive until further notice. Rates of influenza have risen enough statewide and locally that (VCU-CMH) is placing restrictions on visitors to the hospital and to their extended care facility, The Hundley Center. Hospital officials say the measures are designed to protect vulnerable patients, as well as staff members, while the flu is spreading widely in the community. The flu can be especially dangerous to the frail or elderly, and very young children. As always, people are discouraged from visiting if they feel ill or have any flu symptoms such as fever and chills, exhaustion, body aches, headache, cough, congestion. Vomiting or diarrhea are more common in children. If you must visit, you are urged to wash or sanitize your hands before and after visiting patients and upon entering or leaving the hospital and will be required to wear a mask while visiting. Hand sanitizing stations, dispensers and masks are available at hospital entrances and throughout the building. Please help us reduce the risk of spreading seasonal flu and other viral Illnesses and help us protect our patients.
