VINCENTIAN MUSIC MINISTRY Have you ever asked the question “why Catholics do not sing in church?” It was while discussing this question and seeking to address it that we developed the art of involving the congregation into full and active participation in the liturgy through music and song. Firstly having discovered the elements, which hinder the participation of the people and having eliminated them, we found it opened up opportunities where the congregation spontaneously responded and to our surprise eagerly awaited their moments of sacred engagement of prayer through song. The Church prohibits no kind of sacred music from liturgical actions as long as it corresponds to the spirit of the liturgical celebration itself and the nature of its individual parts, and does not hinder the active participation of the people. Vatican II. We have also tailored a workshop on Congregational Singing where we highlight the hindrances and the many possibilities towards full and active participation of the congregation. This is suitable for all who are involved in parish ministry musicians and non-musicians. We can arrange a workshop for you in your parish or community Centre our next one is planned for June 7th 2014 at Rossnoulagh Retreat Centre Co Donegal.
