Valley observes shut down against musical concert => Life in Kashmir remained paralyzed on Saturday in wake of the shutdown called by Syed Ali Geelani and restrictions imposed by the authorities on the occasion of Zubin Mehta’s musical concert. Curfew like situation prevailed in famous Boulevard while roads wore a deserted look from Dalgate to Shalimar garden. Security arrangements were tight to thwart any attempt to disrupt the musical concert. Barricades were set up at different entry points and security checking was intensified. Shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the road. Large contingents of police and Para-military troopers were deployed in Srinagar City. No curfew was in vogue, however, strict restrictions were imposed to restrict the movement of the people. Reports said that people were directed to stay indoors in Shalimar and its adjacent areas. Tourists faced lot of inconvenience in wake of restrictions and heavy presence of police and CRPF personnel. A police official told CNS that no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in City. “The situation remained peaceful and no untoward incident occurred in City,” he said. Reports said that complete shutdown was also observed in North Kashmir’s Baramulla, Sopore, Pattan, Kupwara, Sumbal and Bandipora towns. Life came to stand still in South and Central Kashmir as well. Shops and business establishments remained shut in Pulwama, Shopian, Tral, Islamabad, Kulgam Verinag, Ganderbal, Kangan and Budgam towns. (CNS)
