.. Victims are members of society whose problems represent the memory of suffering, rage, and pain in a world that longs to forget. - Bessel Van Der Kolk Advocates for animals and surviving non-human-animals themselves -in particular- form a large segment of these victims, we live in a world removed, alien and largely indifferent to the causes we advocate for; a world in which there is very little (as yet) JUSTICE for animals; we speak for those without Justice, without recourse to power, with no inalienable, inherent rights to protect (even) their own bodies from harm, abuse and exploitation ... as they ... these the most vulnerable are tortured, eaten and brutalized for what is inalienable theirs - their own flesh, their body parts, and their offspring - we, the advocates who call for justice for animals carry that trauma in our bodies as well. We become a voice, a living testament to the brutality they experienced and continue to experience, and we have to engage daily with those who long to forget.... this creates a psychological and spiritual battle field within us, in our own bodies and minds that needs to be addressed, to be recognized as authentic and to be healed.
