Villages in Dognecea Mountains, Banat, Romania. Mountainous - TopicsExpress

Villages in Dognecea Mountains, Banat, Romania. Mountainous Banat is a scarcely inhabited area. The population density in Caraș Severin county is 39 inhabitants/km² (second lowest in Romania after Tulcea county) but most of people live in few towns and time forgotten villages and the surface of the county consists mostly in endless uninhabited mountains and hills covered in forests. There is little info online about this region and I couldnt find the surface of Dognecea Mountains but must be something between 400 and 700 km². The maximum height is 617 m. Next photos are with the few villages that exist at the edge of this vast forested wilderness. Rafnic/Ravnik/Kengyeltó/Raffneck/Рафник - the village is inhabited by 537 Croatians and 15 Romanians. In fact, it was founded by Karashovani, an ethnic group that in 16th century took refuge from Balkans in Carașova (Romanian Banat) and from there they founded other localities. The Karashovani were considered Bulgarians in the Austria-Hungary but now they declare themselves Croatians.
