WATCH THIS SajakThor engages with a violent political landscape that has remained challenging in Cambodia ever since the country’s nation-wide elections on July 28, 2013. This video depicts the Apsara as peacemaker, delivering a message to the people of Cambodian, at a time of post-election conflict. The Apsaras first ever appearance in Cambodian myth-history can be traced back to the famous scene, known to many Hindus and Theravada Buddhists as, “The Churning of the World’s Milk for Immortality”. It is a scene in which Hanuman and the Giant churn the serpent Naga around Mount Mandara in a cosmic tug-of-war. The Apsara bursts through bubbles in the air that are produced by churning the milk. Floating in the air, the Apsaras entice the rivals with their divine movements, which carry meaning that is literal as sign language. As the story goes, Hanuman and the Giant are instantly mesmerized that they forget all about their conflict. vimeo/107642158 Submitted by Chris Rogy #khmericanfirst
