WEEKEND SPORTS ROUNDUP The Varsity Soccer team will play their second to last home game today against Stepinac on Murphy Field at 4:00 pm. Come out and support the team. On Friday the Freshman Cross Country team placed 2nd among 10 teams at the preps invitational. Conor Hughes remained undefeated this year on the Van Cortlandt park course with a first place finish among 127 runners. Teammate Sebastien Balthazar followed close behind with a 2nd place finish. Arthur Gooden, Nicholas Santos, Anthony Ciccone, Hayden Sharnsky, and Brendon Kersting rounded out the teams top 7 finishers. The Freshman Swimming and Diving team kicked off the season vs. Iona Prep over the weekend. Led by double winners Owen Byrnes and Frankie Moran, the team cruised to a 51-34 victory. Standout performances were also put in by Amana Barnes, Richard Glints, Spencer LaFata, Mike Marun, Mike Rossi, Aristides Speres and Dylan Walsh. Next up is school rival - Xavier. On Sunday the Crew Team competed against almost 100 other teams at the Textile River Regatta in Lowell, Massachusetts. In cold rainy conditions the prep eight of Tom Lyver, Dillon LaFata, Alessandro Tagliavia, David Ojeda, Teo Viola, Thomas Marth, William Curtis, Skender Mustafaraj and coxswain Brian Queenan finished 7th of 15 colleges in the Club eight event losing to winner Wesleyan University, while defeating crews from Colby, University of New Hampshire, Tufts University and Clark University among others. The rest of the team competed successfully with crews in Novice and high school events in eights and fours. Congratulations to the team on a very successful weekend in very difficult conditions. Next Saturday the entire team travels to Shelton, Connecticut to compete in the Head of the Housatonic Regatta
