WHATEVER HAPPENED TO OUR FIRST LOVE FOR CHRIST? We cannot help conforming ourselves to what we love. But many believers admit they have lost their first love for Christ. Their adoration has become an obligation. They have lost the joy and excitement of discovering themselves as a new creation in Christ. The sad result is that godliness becomes a struggle. Other passions pull them in other directions, often making conflicting demands on their character. Sooner or later they know that godly character cannot thrive in such a context - with one foot in Christ and the other in unrighteous Mammon. The truth remains: our spirits will not fit into two moulds simultaneously. Let us take this problem to our God in prayer: Father God we need the Holy Spirit to re-ignite our passion for the things that pertain to eternal life and godliness. There is no point having a form of godliness while denying its power. We need to refocus on our relationship with You so that our faith in Christ becomes a certain trust. We confess Your Word in Romans 8:29 that THOSE WHOM GOD FOREKNEW HE ALSO PREDESTINED TO BE CONFORMED TO THE LIKENESS OF HIS SON. Help us therefore in our prayer for personal revival - that we return to our first love for Christ, to allow ourselves to be disciplined in the bootcamp of the Holy Spirit through prayer and Bible study, to regain our identity entirely in Christ. Help us to be singleminded and to have a whole-hearted attitude towards Your plans and purposes for our individual lives. Help us to realise Jesus is not just our Saviour but also the Lord our Sanctifier. We realise only too well if He is not Lord of all, He is not Lord at all. In His awesome Name we pray. Amen Ps.
