WOOOO! Its nearly Halloween!.... Exciting! Well readers, inbetween working on caricature commissions and drawing at events this month, Ive been busy working on these costumes for my kids. Thought Id share these pics with you. Our Tommy (aged 8) wanted to be SpongeBob Squarepants and Evie (5) wanted to go as a pussy cat. As you do... Tommys costume (thankfully!) was just an old cardboard bike box I got from my local Halfords store for free. I cut holes in it for the mouth and arms, then glued 2 sponges on for the cheeks. The eyes are a polystyrene ball cut in half and also glued on. I painted the whole thing with cardboard primer, then spraypainted it yellow out in my shed ( almost killing myself with the fumes in the process! Took out a fair few spiders, though! ) The other details were hand painted with acrylics. I fitted shoulder straps on it also, so it would be comfy for Tom to wear like a rucksack. I also got Tom to wear his brown shorts and long sleeved yellow top. I got the gloves and yellow tights off the internet for a couple of quid, and the stipes on the white socks are actually electrical tape! Job done! Evies outfit was simpler as she just wanted to wear her cat suit; however she wasnt too impressed with the tiny flimsy mask that came with it. I bought some sheets of foam and glue from Hobbycraft and cut some shapes and created a new one for her that fitted snugly over her head. I think the results arent too shabby and Im fairly happy with how they turned out...especially as I dont work on these kind of projects too often! Anyway, both my kids are delighted with the results and cant wait to wear them to the school disco this week, so the jobs a good un! Think I may have earned myself a few Cool Dad points on my Clubcard from them also! Happy Halloween folks! Hope you all have a fun one! : )
