Walk the Line Some Johnny Cash for day 11 #balancebasics Headstand. Im always thinking about staying in line with this pose - head, shoulders, hips. Its important to build the strength in your foundation. The progression: Start with placing your hands on the floor shoulder width apart, with head on the floor slightly in front. Walk your feet towards your hands, moving your butt higher (like in a pike position). The goal is to get your hips as close to in line with your shoulders as possible, transferring weight from your legs to your arms/shoulders. Go as far as you can and stay there - this will build strength in your shoulders and flexibility in the hamstrings. Once comfortable here, place one knee on a Tricep. Then try the other knee. This is tripod, stay here and again, build that base. If you feel confident, tighten the core and try and raise the legs. Do this against a wall at first (I still want a couch nearby!) the key is keeping the core tight and hips in line with the shoulders. I am now working on control, coming down slowly into an L position with my legs perpendicular to my body. It all takes time - take it step by step and build confidence as you go. Today Im wearing my Tinker Tank by Athleta - I love the drawstring at the bottom, hides the belly on the days you need it :)
