#WalkingBorneo - Expedition Penan: Part 3 Penan - Interconnected with the forest... The Penans entire lives are Interconnected with the forest and all that lives within it. They understanding the life cycle of the forest: exactly what plants are food for each animal, what plants are medicinal, when each tree will fruit etc. Within these forests and within these minds lies invaluable knowledge. This knowledge and understanding has grown and developed over generations. A deep and precious resource to the whole world. Living in the forest, free of money and all its stresses; their lifestyle gives them very healthy family and social lives. When the Penan work they work incredibly hard; whether its hunting, cutting firewood, building a shelter etc. But everyday they have much time to relax, enjoy and socialise. The Penan have a rich history and tradition of music inspired by the forest. Deep in the forest I met Pajak - one of the last masters of traditional Penan nose flute (Keringot). A wise man with much knowledge of Penan mythology & tradition.
