Wasnt 100% sure until this morning, but something (or things) got 6 full grown hens yesterday afternoon. One other hen is missing her tail feathers, and the rest seem undamaged...no sign of any struggle...no bloody parts. Just gone. Now, unlikely just one coyote made off with that many at a time, either the whole family came to dine at the buffet, or maybe someone needed some chickens more than I do and came and called them up. (Theyre pretty friendly and would come if called) Seeing the tail feathers near the place where I saw the other coyote take one, makes me lean towards them being dinner. Two RIRs, two light Brahmas (my favorites) one EE and one of the new black Australorpes, all gone. :( I expect one now and again to predation etc. The price I pay for letting them free range.. but sure hate seeing my flock cut nearly in half in a single afternoon!
