We had an exciting morning! Kids were up early, getting ready for their zoo field trip, and eating breakfast. Im walking around looking for socks when my entire living room screams and Mom, who is helping with the kids, yells, Get Mikey! There is a SNAKE in here! ...or it might be a lizard. Im not lifting my foot to find out! (she was stepping on it). Well, thats a relief! It fits under her foot! I was expecting to run in to find a huge rattler slithering across my floor! Mom reminded me that the babies bite, too, though. So, the kids and I ran hysterically to wake mikey. Im getting a knife from the kitchen (because, you know, Im going to stab it or chop its head off) while screaming for him to wake up and come handle the snake.. Mom lifts her foot enough for Mikey to cover it with his boot. I lean down to examine the parts of it I can see wiggling out from his boot. I can see some of its body and its head, but its really small. Definitely not a lizard. Yup..must be a baby snake. I prepare to start chopping that suckers head off...when his tiny, hidden legs popped out. Oh, wait... A dang salamander. Seriously? My entire family almost had a heart attack because you wanted to slither into my house, across my floor, with your legs tucked under..or SOMEHOW hidden, until I started to press a sharp blade against your body?? On one hand, and more than anything, Im VERY relieved. On the other hand...I just went from kind of a badass that was chopping off the head of a possibly poisonous snake with a kitchen knife at 7 AM in my nightgown...to a salamander murderer. Thanks!!
